If you own an iPhone, you know by now that one of the difficulties is how to customize and make iPhone ringtones longer than the customary 20 seconds. Apple, manufacturer of iPhone naturally wants to protect its products and one way to do it is by making it so easy to customize your iPhone ringtones using iTunes which is their own product as well. They, however, put limitations on what you can and cannot do. But there is a way to make your favourite song ring longer as your iPhone alert tone.
Make iPhone Ringtones Sound Longer – First Limitation
Since Sept. 2010 when Apple released iTunes 10, you can no longer create custom ringtones. You have to purchase your ringtone via the iTunes Store app on iOS devices but there is no limit to the number of ringtones you can use. If you want to make or buy a ringtone for a song you don’t own yet, you have to use a third-party program that will let you create iTunes ringtones. There are several available and these can be used to make iPhone ringtones, whether you purchased them or acquired them another way e.g. from a CD.
Remedy
Ringtones are usually programmed to last for only 30 to 40 seconds. Your iPhone, however, will only ring for 20 seconds because that is the default mode. To remedy this problem, the first thing you do to make iPhone ringtones sound longer is to dial *#61# and a telephone number will come out on the screen. This is where your voicemail calls are usually directed.
Note this telephone number down. Now dial **61* telephone no. **30# and press call. You have now changed the default setting of your iPhone and it should ring the full 30 to 40 second duration when you make iPhone ringtones.
Make iPhone Ringtones Sound Longer – Second Limitation
Another limitation set by iTunes is that all ringtones must only be 30 to 40 seconds long. If you have one that lasts for 50 seconds, iTunes will not even recognize it as a ringtone at all. But there is a way to go around this limitation.
Remedy
After you have made your short ringtone, locate it in your iTunes. Drag this song to the iPhone ringtone maker and double check to see that the duration is less than 40 seconds. Uncheck “Export to iPhone”, check “Export to iTunes”, and click “Generate”.
Once you’ve done that, it is now time to sync your iPhone with iTunes and make iPhone ringtones sound longer. First you connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes, go to Ringtones tab and check your “Sync Ringtones” option. Click on the sync button and you can now set the start time and end time. You just drag and release to how long you want the ringtone to be. Uncheck the “Export to iPhone” and check “Export to iTunes” then click “Generate”.
To change the 40 second limitation, click “Manage”, select the short ringtone and click “Replace”. Find the long ringtone and click “Open”. Tap on the “Sounds” icon in your settings menu, click “Ringtone” icon. Your long iPhone ringtone is already in your library. You have successfully done how to make iPhone ringtones sound longer.
